The bags are well made and functional, of course, but it’s the optional label kits that have seen many cinematographers queuing up to get hold of them. You’d best be quick too, as every time CRD Bag drops a new set of bags or labels, they sell out rapidly. Each pouch has a Velcro panel to which you can attach an embroidered patch or two. A kit of patches costs around £40/$50 and supplies useful labels like cables, monitor, gimbal, wireless, tools, media and the like. There are also travel kits for labelling your bags as snacks, toys, gadgets, underwear and more, and even lens-specific patches with 100mm, 18-55mm, PL and what have you.
Does your kit bag look like a whole mess of cables, batteries, lens caps, memory cards and more? Then you should get organised, so you know where your bits and pieces are and can access them easily in a hurry. Lots of bag manufacturers make inserts to fit in their specific cases, but there’s only really one that makes inserts which fit into lots of different bags and can be labelled easily. This is CRD Bag, a Swedish brand that’s actually pronounced ‘cord bag’. The brand makes these small organiser pouches into cool, funky bits of kit that filmmakers are just lapping up. Go to any filmmaking show and there will always be a crowd around the CRD Bag stand.
250x130x60mm/9.8x5.1x2.4in; 120x130x60mm/4.7x5.1x2.4in Weight: 296g/0.65lb; 166g/0.37lb
The trendies go mad for limited- edition patches that show CRD Bag’s humour. How about an HDMI patch that apes the logo of rock band AC/DC, a tools patch in the style of the Hot Wheels toy cars logo, a wireless label in the font of Top Gun or a snacks one that imitates Snickers chocolate bars. It’s a nice little bit of harmless fun. While CRD Bag started with a range of organiser pouches, these are relatively slim, although they do come in different lengths and widths. But you could never get anything that girthy inside them. Now these Full Brick and Half Brick pouches have dropped. As you might imagine, the Full Brick is roughly the size of a brick used to build a house, while the Half is half that size. The manufacturer offers bundles to bring down the prices slightly, so we went for a pack of six: two Full and four Half Bricks. They’re made from tough material with high-quality zips, but don’t weigh that much. The sides are semi-transparent so you can pretty much see what’s in there if you don’t read the label. We chose a pack of standard labels which just fix on. It’s amazing what having a set of pouches with decent labels does for your organisational skills. Both of our main camera bags were tidied up, with everything placed in nicely labelled pouches that look great together. While there’s no groundbreaking technology here, these well-designed pouches are a bit of fun and just make sense, encouraging you to keep your kit organised. PRO MOVIEMAKER RATING: 8/10 Cool kit that’s funky and functional Pros: Good sizes, great labelling Cons: You’ll want to buy lots!
