Canon CN-E CINEMA PRIMES
Verdict Cooke’s Full-Frame Plus lenses are ready for this emerging market with primes and anamorphic primes. Best of all, you get the Cooke look along with them. anamorphic character.” Cooke’s solution at 1.8x gives the image a greater anamorphic character feel with an aspect ratio of 2.40:1 while capturing 90% of the pixels – that’s within industry resolution standards. S7/I FULL-FRAME PLUS Cooke Optics If you shoot 35mm, Super 35mm, full-frame and beyond the Cooke S7/i, T2 Full-Frame Plus primes are designed to cover the emergent full-frame cinema camera sensors up to at least the full sensor area of the RED Weapon 8K (46.31mm image circle). As you’d expect from Cooke, the range has superb optical and mechanical performance, control of flare, distortion, veiling glare and spherical aberrations at full aperture. The cam-type focus mechanism allows for smooth focus adjustments. Modular construction increases ease of maintenance as well as serviceability. The S7/i lenses come equipped with /i Technology for frame by frame digital information capture, as is the case with all modern Cooke cine lenses for film and digital capture. The range is available in focal lengths of 16, 18, 21, 25, 27, 32, 40, 50, 65, 75, 100 and 135mm and are especially well balanced for astigmatism and correct for lateral and longitudinal aberrations over the entire image area. The Full-Frame Plus Anamorphic is designed with a 1.8 squeeze which Cooke says gives the best results. “At 2x you lose too many pixels, at 1.6x which is 100% of the pixels, you lose too much of the
Producer Gary Adcock recently shot with the Raptor lenses using Sony’s full-frame Venice camera, “With the full-frame (24.1x36.2mm) sensor in the Venice, the Raptors allowed us unparalleled levels of sharpness, contrast, and clarity, balancing a delicate bokeh with a smooth roll-off in the highlights. “The sensor enhances the shallow or ‘flat’ depth-of-field that macro lenses are known for, where the range of what is in focus is a very narrow band, forcing separation between the foreground subject and the out-of-focus details behind. “With the Raptor lens family IB/E Optics offers a new macro lens set with four focal lengths: 60mm, 100mm, 150mm and 180mm. “This property of the lenses allows for some striking portraiture shot with the macros, the larger sensor requiring us to stop down to a smaller aperture to match the look of shooting on a Super 35-sized sensor.” The Raptor lenses feature full-frame (36×24) coverage, 1:1 magnification, a T-Stop of 2.9 as well as robust and durable professional cine mechanics. The Raptors have a consistent distance from flange to iris and focus ring with a front diameter of 95mm. You also get UMS PL Mount (Nikon F, Canon EF, Sony NEX E). Recently announced are new focal lengths of 25mm and 35mm. Also added some accessories including the FFx1.4 and FFx2 extenders. Verdict Macro cinematography shot in large format is an exquisite use of the format and the Raptors are right at the forefront of this new movement.
Verdict The new Canon CN-E20mm gives the CN-E range a great spread between its 14 and 24mm. Superb 4K performance from edge to edge. a super-fast 20mm 4K cine prime lens which is 118.4mm long and weighs just 1.2kg. T1.5 is the maximum aperture and you get superb optomechanical build and durability. The new CN-E20mm T1.5 L F boasts a large diameter aspheric lens and low dispersion glass, eliminating spherical aberration and other optical phenomena; delivering an extremely clear image. With a bright T number of 1.5, the CN-E20mm T1.5 L F can capture 4K footage in low light, perfect for nature documentaries. To enhance creative shooting, the lens’ low T number and 11-blade iris produces natural blur effects, enabling a three-dimensional bokeh effect with a deeper depth-of-field. CN-Es are compatible with the newly launched EOS C700 FF, as well as the EOS-1D C and other full-frame cameras. The built-in rubber ring at the mount connector guarantees a drip- proof structure, durable enough for any production which involves challenging shooting environments. You get Canon familiarity with the gear position, front diameter, total length and rotation angle. New phosphorescent front barrel indicators provide greater visibility in low-light conditions, while the focus ring displays numbers on both the left and right side of the lens, to allow the operator to check the distance indicator from either side. You also get a professional grade, 300° focus rotation angle. The Canon CN-E20mm T1.5 L F is
