GEAR OF THE YEAR

VOTE FOR YOUR…

Our annual awards honour the very best equipment and services – each one voted for by you

T he Pro Moviemaker Gear of the Year Awards are heaven for gearheads! Now entering its seventh year, these prestigious gongs are recognised as a major achievement for manufacturers of filmmaking hardware, software and services all over the world. The Gear of the Year Awards recognise innovation and excellence in products and the companies behind them – and winning one is a real honour. Unlike some awards, the victors are voted for by professional filmmakers – the people who use the kit every day. That’s what makes them so special. Brand-new or time-served workhorse equipment, we acknowledge only the very best. As always, flagship categories are for cameras. Last year, we introduced best hybrid/crossover to replace the dwindling DSLR category which had seen no significant launches. New for 2023, we have added a PTZ class – a format that is growing in importance. We’ve seen new launches galore for all camera types.

As well as cameras, find classes for lenses, lights, audio and more – which are all experiencing continual improvement and technological advancement. We also honour service providers – rental houses and retailers of new and used equipment – the vital conduits between manufacturers and working professionals. The editorial team and gear testers of Pro Moviemaker magazine have debated long and hard to compile these shortlists. But we don’t make the call on the winners. It’s down to you to form the judging panel. We’re calling on you to cast your vote for the equipment and services that have

made a significant difference to your life. Go online and have your say in our quick and easy survey to decide which entries should be recognised and honoured. You don’t have to vote in all categories – just the ones you have experience in, or a viewpoint you want to share. We’ll also announce six Editor’s Choice awards, for the equipment we feel deserves special recognition. These will be in the categories of mirrorless camera, cinema camera, audio, support, lighting and special innovation. However, the real winners are all chosen by you, so please vote and have your say!

HOW TO VOTE Voting is simple – and you don’t have to register. Ballots are open now and run until 22 September 2023, so you’ve got plenty of time to consider where to cast. Go to promoviemaker.net and follow the Gear of the Year link. Have your say in as few or as many categories as you like, and everyone who votes will be entered into a prize draw. The first name pulled out at random will win a case of champagne!
