BURY ST EDMUNDS

Theatre Royal The last working Regency playhouse in the country, the Theatre Royal has been delighting audiences for more than 200 years. Its Christmas panto is legendary, while the rest of the yearly programme yields top-class comedy, drama and music. Coming up, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is the latest family show to be created by the theatre. Audiences can expect to see their favourite characters anew in Mike Akers’ adaptation of L Frank Baum’s classic story, which sets the whimsical action in Suffolk. The Theatre Royal also offers behind-the- scenes tours, giving visitors a chance to head back in time to learn about the building’s history. You’ll even get a chance to tread the boards yourself – enjoy a moment in the same spotlight that Ian McKellan and Dame Judi Dench did! theatreroyal.org
