HAPPY INDEPENDENTS’ DAY! This July, Newmarket will be celebrating its indie businesses. We find out more from the Love Newmarket team, and offer some inspiration on what to explore on your next visit
C elebrated 1-2 July, Independents’ Day is a campaign to support and promote indie enterprises around the UK. It’s an opportunity to visit the gems on your doorstep and discover new favourites, all while supporting your local economy – and an initiative which Love Newmarket is proud to be a part of. “We are incredibly lucky in Newmarket to have fantastic independent businesses all bringing a unique and bespoke offering,” enthuses Natalie Robinson, BID manager.
“There is something for everyone, from parrot head vases at Cartwright Bros to freshly made chilli and chocolate ice cream at Moons Toy Store. “We have a wealth of delicious eateries for all tastes. Whether you’re in the mood for Italian, Thai or Turkish, we have it all!” she adds. “Now more than ever, we need to support our courageous, talented independent businesses. I encourage you to come and explore our lovely town – you’ll only wish you came sooner!” There’s plenty to discover, including Cortado Espresso Bar on Exeter Road. Run by Richard and Eva, this cosy cafe serves speciality coffee and fabulous homemade cakes, fresh sandwiches and salads. Also worth a try is Hmmburger, a high-street restaurant which makes delicious gourmet burgers, desserts, shakes and sides. Fancy hitting the shops? Check out Martha V, a womenswear boutique in the heart of Newmarket. With a range of casual and occasion wear from leading brands like Joseph Ribkoff and Oui, plus stunning mother-of-the-bride options, it’s a real treasure trove.
