COOKE EMBRACES LARGE FORMAT CINEMA
C ooke Optics has revealed the Panchro 65/i lens series, tailored to the demands of 65mm digital cinema cameras. Inspired by the iconic Speed Panchro line, these lenses deliver the signature Cooke look with a modern edge, optimised for large format cinematography. The series includes six focal lengths – between 30 and 152mm – with fast maximum T stops ranging from T2.5 to T2.9 and a lightweight build (1.8–2.3kg). Designed for cameras like the ALEXA 65 and Blackmagic URSA Cine 17K 65, the lenses offer expansive coverage while maintaining the signature aesthetic qualities that have made Cooke lenses a favourite for decades. Equipped with Cooke’s latest /i Technology, the lenses provide detailed metadata for post-production workflows, making them ideal for feature films and high-end TV. The Panchro 65/i series will debut in early 2025, with demo units available later in the year.
FUJIFILM DEVELOPING FIRST FILMMAKING CAMERA: GFX ETERNA
E xciting news from Fujifilm, which has announced it is developing its first filmmaking camera, the GFX ETERNA, slated for release in 2025. Equipped with the GFX 102MP CMOS II HS sensor – which is 1.7x larger than full-frame – and the high-performance X-Processor 5, the GFX ETERNA promises filmmakers exceptional image quality, natural colour reproduction and the flexibility to handle complex post- production workflows. The camera takes its name from Fujifilm’s ETERNA motion picture film, a nod
to the company’s longstanding role in cinema history. Over its 90-year heritage, Fujifilm has been instrumental in developing tech for the film industry, from pioneering colour negative films to high-end cinema lenses such as the Premista and ZK Cabrio series. Now, the GFX ETERNA brings Fujifilm’s acclaimed GFX large format technology to the filmmaking world for the first time. The GFX ETERNA will launch alongside a 32-90mm GF powerzoom lens optimised for filmmaking and a G-to-PL mount adapter to support widely used cinema lenses. This
combination aims to provide flexibility for all kinds of productions, from feature films to documentaries and web content, where large format sensors and superior image quality are increasingly sought after. A prototype of the GFX ETERNA debuted at Inter BEE in November, where filmmakers got a first look at the new system. As it undergoes further field testing ahead of its release, Fujifilm is positioning the camera as a serious alternative for filmmakers who are looking to achieve high-end visuals with a compact and adaptable system.
