An open book The reviews are in at St Mary’s School, Cambridge – and they tell of truly transformative educational experiences
W e are often reminded not to judge a book by its cover, because appearances can be deceiving. Yet, we do tend to flip over and read the reviews on the back. Why? Because thoughtful insights from others can help us go beyond our initial impressions. The same mindset should apply when considering schools – and especially the ones you might think you already understand. Taking the time to find out about a school from as many varied and informed perspectives as possible can help dispel any preconceptions. Visit the school. Talk to current students, parents and teachers. Look at the programmes it offers, the successes

In music, a start in the Junior choir can progress to successfully auditioning with the National Youth Choir. Winning the title of GSA Junior Choir of the Year 2025 is testament to student dedication and high-quality teaching. In the classroom, consistently strong results in the annual UK Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge comes from an enjoyment of coding, problem-solving and logical reasoning. We also celebrate the success of our alumnae through Pastonians Connect, our global network keeping former students connected with our St Mary’s community. Our nurturing environment doesn’t just support students emotionally – it actively enables their academic success. When girls feel genuinely supported and valued for who they are, they have the confidence to take on challenging subjects, pursue ambitious goals and discover capabilities they never knew they had. What really matters is the experience inside our classrooms, in the halls and within our community. We invite parents and prospective students alike to see this for themselves at our open house events in September and October – we are an open book, and you will find us very easy to get to know.
