SAMSUNG PRO PLUS AND EVO PLUS MICROSD CARDS Pro Plus £46/$43 | Evo Plus £38/$35 samsung.com

MicroSD cards are perfect for the latest high-resolution drones and action cams – or even smartphones – emerging in increasingly large sizes and at very fast speeds. A simple adapter allows them to be used in standard SD card slots, which Samsung includes with all its cards. Just like SD cards, microSDs come in SD, SDHC and SDXC formats; the latter can be very large in capacity. Samsung has been leading the way with its Evo cards, ideal for 4K drones. The firm has launched a Pro Plus microSD card and redesigned Evo Plus microSD card – we tested 256GB versions of both. These new products offer improved six-layer protection – two more than the previous generation –making them able to withstand water, extreme temperatures, X-rays, wear, drops and magnetic fields. They do come with a ten-year warranty, but we had no issues at all, and luckily didn’t lose either of the cards. Their very small size makes them prime candidates for being misplaced. The new Pro Plus cards are specifically aimed at data-heavy users, available in 128GB, 256GB and 512GB capacities. These offer rapid read and write speeds of up to 160MB/s and 120MB/s, respectively. Meanwhile, Evo Plus microSDs are built for high reliability and stable performance, with transfer speeds of up to 130MB/s. This provides 1.3x faster sequential read speeds compared to the previous version. The Evo Plus cards come in 64GB, 128GB,

256GB and 512GB capacities. The 64GB version is a lower spec, though. We tried the cards in a DJI Mavic 4K drone, DJI Action 2 camera and the Sony Xperia Pro-I smartphone. Download speeds of the Pro and Evo were very similar. You can’t go wrong with either, but with such a small price difference, you might as well go for the faster card. Samsung is one of the world’s biggest manufacturers of flash memory, and these latest cards are right at the cutting edge. PROMOVIEMAKER RATING: 9/10 Sets the benchmark for microSDs Pros: Affordable and fast Cons: Be careful not to lose them!
