“I was able to show in real time exactly how a Horizon Television production would work, no matter which TriCaster system they purchased.” In the end, the station was equipped with four TriCasters – a TriCaster 8000 and a TriCaster 410 for in-studio use and two TriCaster Minis for field production. The TriCaster Minis allow the Horizon team to shoot and capture multi-camera programming remotely. The TriCaster Mini field kits are configured for switching between four JVC GY-HM 200 cameras. Inside the Horizon studio, the TriCaster 8000 and TriCaster 410 operate in a single control room, which serves as a combined production control and master control room. The TriCaster 8000 is used for productions from the studio and from the mosque, using four Sony PMW 320 cameras. The TriCaster 410 serves as a master control unit, taking in external satellite sources, as well as the TriCaster
professional staff. Already the channel broadcasts from neighbouring countries, including Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia and Malawi. Its next move is to expand beyond Kenya and become a service for Muslims across the whole of Africa. “We are broadcasting in two languages, Swahili and English,” says Abusufian. “The English viewers are mainly in Kenya, but for Swahili, we believe the biggest number is in Tanzania.” Horizon TV has just partnered with satellite provider, Eutelsat, which will allow it to expand its reach enormously. “Our aim is to be seen across Africa. There are very few Islamic TV stations in Africa and most of them are not operating that professionally,” explains Abusufian. “Our vision is that we provide services right across the continent.”

Using an NDI for Adobe CC plug-in, the Horizon team can pull footage and clips into TriCaster directly from Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects.
