CINE LENS SPECIAL

SCHNEIDER’S SELECTION

The Isco4all set is three spherical cine primes and an anamorphic front adapter. These lenses work as regular primes, but adding the Iscorama 54 CU- 1.5x adapter gives a classic anamorphic look. Though it retains the vintage feel of the originals, this modern model is upgraded with sharper glass, reduced close focus distance of 1400mm and standard 0.8M gear ring. The three compact Iscospherical A+ cine primes have focal lengths of 43mm, 58mm and 85mm with a 2.4 T stop. They are a Schneider-Kreuznach version of the Dulens Mini-Primes, specially made to produce the classic Iscorama style. They have an Iscospherical Amber- Coating (A+) that creates great flares. schneiderkreuznach.com “World-first lenses can be used in anamorphic or conventional styles”

300° barrel rotation, the manual focus markings offer a high level of accuracy. On the Tilt version of these optics, the focal plane can be shifted by angling the lens to the camera body by up to 4° either way from standard by turning a dial. This allows the plane of focus to be moved, and so is ideal for keeping product shots sharp even at wide apertures – or for producing the increasingly desirable ‘small world’ look. The Cine-Tilt range is only in E-mount and there are 25mm, 35mm, 50mm, 75mm and 100mm versions.

Schneider-Kreuznach has its well-loved Xenon series of prime lenses, which it also offers in Cine-Tilt versions, as well as Isco4all A+ EF lenses – the world’s first set that can be used in both anamorphic and conventional styles. In terms of conventional primes, the Xenon FF-Prime family includes 18mm T2.4, 25mm T2.1, 35mm T2.1, 50mm T2.1, 75mm T2.1 and 100mm T2.1 focal lengths. The circular 14-blade aperture delivers super-smooth bokeh. Its precision focusing design ensures breathing is minimised, and with a

IRIX EXPANDS AGAIN

Irix’s cinema lens collection continues to expand with the 65mm T1.5. All the lenses come in metric or imperial measurements to fit PL, Nikon Z, Micro Four Thirds, Sony E, Canon EF, Leica L and Fujifilm X. You can even get special-edition versions in Stormtrooper white to match your Red. These stunning-quality cine primes include an 11mm T4.3 super-wide, plus a 15mm T2.6 wide-angle option. There are also three fast T1.5 lenses in 21mm, 30mm and 45mm focal lengths. And at the long end is a 150mm T3 macro, which can give 1:1 reproduction for close-ups. It’s also a great short telephoto. Irix lenses are designed in Europe and offer genuine premium build quality with the feel of high-end cine lenses. Their many unique features make them easier to handle, while still at a relatively affordable price. On some lenses, Irix uses a second focusing ring called the Adaptive Ring for easier handheld use, but others do away with this for a totally conventional feel. The inconsistency might jar a bit, but it’s not a big deal. The magnetically attached lens hoods are a definite winner, though. All the Korean-made lenses are designed for 8K shooting, with minimal vignetting, virtually no focus breathing and rounded aperture blades for smooth bokeh. A kit of the 15mm, 21mm, 30mm, 45mm and 150mm models in PL mount costs £5970/$6299. irixlens.com

THE ART OF GREAT GLASS

Pioneering Japanese brand Sigma has a cine range of full-frame primes that borrow many of their optical design features from its Art line of stills glass. For video use, these come in a traditional all-manual metal body with clickless aperture ring. The 11 prime lenses from 20 to 135mm are all T1.5, while the 14mm is T2. They are available in PL, Sony E or Canon EF mounts with distance markings which can be specified in feet or metres. The nine-bladed iris produces smooth bokeh and ghosting and flaring are minimised. Each lens in the range offers consistent lens gear positions and 180° of focus barrel rotation. These FF High Speed Primes also feature a clickless iris with linear markings, dampeners on each gear ring for silent operation, industry-standard 0.8M gear pitch as well as engraved markings in luminous paint for low- light visibility. Filter size is 82mm,

while the front diameter of all lenses is 95mm. A 50mm T1.5 in EF fit costs £3260/$4499. Sigma also offers a ten-lens Classic range, which features some non-coated elements to provide a stylishly low-contrast, vintage look. At launch, these were only available in a full set for $44,000 (UK price on application), but can now be bought individually from £4150/$4449 each. sigmauk.com
