The 70-200mm f/2.8 DG DN OS is a great example of this, with performance to match the Sony version but at a lower price. And the Sigma 50mm f/1.2 DG DN Art pushes the boundaries of fast prime lenses for Sony cameras. The latest Fujinon Duvo HZK 24-300mm T2.9 is definitely not at the bargain-bucket end in terms of price, but offers stunning quality and a fast aperture over a massively useful zoom range. The evergreen Zeiss LWZ.3 21-100mm T2.9-3.9 continues to be popular and Irix’s new 65mm T1.5 cine prime offers great quality and affordability. Perhaps the biggest news in film lenses has come from optical giants Cooke and Zeiss, who both offered brand-new ranges of cine primes ideal for smaller machines like mirrorless or cine cameras. The Cooke SP3 range gives the unique ‘Cooke Look’ to some seriously compact glass. And the new Zeiss Nano Primes bring the famous Zeiss quality to a wider market as they are much more accessible options than the high-end versions. The growth of anamorphic doesn’t show signs of slowing, with Sirui’s range a popular choice as well as Schneider-Kreuznach’s Isco4all lens set. This combines three stand- alone spherical cine primes and an
From the latest AF zoom or super- telephoto for mirrorless, a cinema prime or anamorphic, there are lens choices to suit all needs at a wide range of price points. Nowadays, many brands have made AF lenses far more suitable for filmmaking with de-clickable irises and focus breathing compensation. Once again, Sony brought out some impressive new glass like the 300mm f/2.8 G Master prime, by far the lightest super-telephoto of its kind from any manufacturer and at a surprisingly affordable price. And the revised Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 GM II brought a host of improvements to the pro-level wide-angle zoom. Tamron’s 35-150mm zoom - f/2 at the wide end, closing down to f/2.8 at the telephoto end – has continued to win loads of fans and the new Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 Di III VC VXD G2 telezoom proved a viable and less expensive version for Sony fans. Canon’s newest AF zoom, the RF 24-105mm f/2.8 L brought this fast aperture to the useful 24-105mm range for the first time. And its CN-R line-up finally made the full suite of Canon cine primes in a mount to suit the latest RF cameras. Sigma continues to offer top- quality optics at terrific prices to rival camera makers’ own options.
Iscorama anamorphic front adapter for the best of both worlds. Samyang came up with its own similar system for its V-AF lenses such as the 75mm, which can be fitted with an anamorphic front adapter. Samyang also offers the more conventional Xeen 35mm. There’s another category for lens accessories. Filters such as the Formatt-Hitech Bloom Gold diffusion filter are nominated, as well as Schneider-Kreuznach’s Classic ND and Diopter Spots. IB/E’s own filters use natural materials for a very distinct look. The top-quality Vocas MB-455 matte box is also up for the award, as is the Autocue Explorer 17in: an ideal product for smaller productions. Finally, there’s hardware to help interviewees pull off the popular right-down-the-lens style of interview, including the Voxbox Pro and Magic Video Box. Have your say and vote now!
