AWARDS FILMMAKER OF THE YEAR

MUSIC VIDEO WINNER: ANDY LITTLE FOR THE WANDERING HEARTS: RIVER TO CRY Music videos are where creatives let their imaginations run wild, and the entries in this category highlighted everything from fun edits for local bands to high-end productions for big names. The best have great style and execution to add to the music. A clear winner was the video for River to Cry by The Wandering Hearts. Directed by Stewart Baxter, Andy Little was the DOP charged with bringing the vision to fruition. He pulled it off with a super-stylish and creatively lit video that matches the artists’ musical work. “The video becomes slightly more unhinged as the song develops. With the use of tilt-shift lenses, dramatic double exposures and epic guitar solos, the song and video build to a crescendo,” describes Little.

ACTION & SPORT WINNER: BRIAN BARNES FOR UK ATHLETICS BRITISH FELL AND HILL RELAYS Shooting sporting action is a unique challenge not only to capture the movement but also tell the stories behind the competitors – the pain, joy, heartbreak and thrill. So when Brian Barnes covered the UK Athletics British Fell and Hill Relays in Ambleside, he had the lot: hundreds of competitors, a stunning location and lots of achy muscles. Barnes impressed us in this category for attention-grabbing footage. Shot with a drone as well as slow-motion and normal-speed camerawork, Barnes captured the essence of a tough event and the competitors who live to run up and down slippery hills. “It encapsulates fell running, especially a major event, well,” he insists. “It has been used in a visual display of fell running in Ambleside.”

FUTURE FILMMAKER WINNER: BILLY LAMB FOR THE SHED This is a totally open class where the films were made by students, aspiring professionals or those in the first two years of a career. The ultimate victor is a talented up-and-comer who has made pop videos for a band called The Shed. “I shot and edited everything myself using rented equipment for a university project,” says Lamb. The first video was for the song Pop Culture Connoisseur . To go along with

the song’s lyrics, Lamb recreated some famous scenes from well-known movies such as Trainspotting , Terminator 2 , Star Wars , Superman , Spiderman , Pulp Fiction , Silence of the Lambs , Rocky , the James Bond franchise and lots more. A second video called Love Thy Neighbour is a parody of Boris Johnson’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic. Both films have humour, style and show that Lamb has great potential.
