EURO CINE EXPO PREVIEW AGENDA The Glasto of gear! This year marks the third edition of Euro Cine Expo – a show dedicated to filmmaking and networking – and it’s set to bring a real festival feel
A different sort of show returns for its third edition, promising an even bigger and better experience for film, television and broadcast professionals. Running from 27 to 29 June at Munich’s Motorworld venue, Euro Cine Expo 2024 unites a global community of industry experts, but is so much more than just a trade show of hardware and software. This venue is a concert and event space which has three huge halls and an on-site hotel with some exclusive studio apartments. The location helps deliver a festival feel with on-site restaurants, food trucks and networking opportunities plus workshops and panel discussions. With indoor and outdoor exhibits, a symposium, virtual production features, seminars and workshops, Euro Cine Expo offers a platform for top manufacturers, suppliers, cinematographers and crew to connect and explore everything new. The event attracts all the major industry players such as Sony, Red, Blackmagic and more. From Aputure to Zeiss, it’s an A to Z of who’s who in the film industry. And of course, there are plenty of after-show parties. Claire Saunders, event director, said: “Euro Cine Expo has established itself as the unmatched European event for the cinematography and film industry. With a bigger and better line-up than
ever before, including over 100 exhibitors and a two-day symposium packed with exclusive educational content, we are very much looking forward to welcoming both exhibitors and visitors to this premier event in Munich this summer.” In 2023, Academy Award-winning DOP James Friend presented a seminar on his lighting techniques for All Quiet on the Western Front . This year, a host of international DOPs, including multiple Oscar winners, have confirmed their attendance at Euro Cine Expo. These
visionaries will be on hand to share their insight both on the show floor and during the two-day symposium. Opening-day seminars include investigations into clever green-screen solutions, shooting 35mm film for virtual production and how cinematographers are facing up to the challenges of all-LED lighting, covering issues such as accurate colour rendering and skin tones or coping with picky colourists. And if you are concerned about judder during fast pans, a seminar by David Stump, ASC will talk about the mechanics of this phenomenon and how cinematographers can cope with the physics of digital cinema cameras shooting at 24fps. Day two will include a look at the acceptance of HDR content across Europe, how AI could be a major disruptor within the movie and TV industry, and the relationship between cinematographers, directors and actors.
