EDUCATION
DIVE IN!
But while that’s a traditional measure of a school’s sporting success, it’s increasingly far from being the only one. For many, what matters perhaps more than anything else is establishing that every child will leave with a positive experience of sport, making it more likely than ever before to become an enjoyable part of their lives afterwards. “Ultimately, our emphasis now is on ensuring that a greater number of pupils come out of school with a sport or activity that they feel really confident in… that they feel they can access when they leave the confines of timetabled sport,” says Glenn Kirkham at The Perse School. “That’s our aim – and if it makes them champions along the way, that’s great.” It’s all about developing the individual and their passions
Summer is in touching distance and that means kids will want to be in the water. Whether it’s holidays abroad, Lammas Land paddling pool dips or a trip to the local pool to cool off, safety while swimming is key. Making sure your child is confident in the water can lead to a lifetime of enjoying swimming – and the health benefits that being active in the water can bring. Elite Swimming Academy is a fast-track private swim school that teaches both children and adults how to swim throughout Cambridgeshire. Founded by marathon swimmer Ed Williams (who has swum the North Channel, the English Channel and Gibraltar Strait), the company has grown organically over the past decade to a team of 30 skilled coaches. The ethos is all about providing high-quality children’s swimming lessons in excellent pools, with tiny class sizes and inspirational teaching; nurturing children to swim independently from the age of just three years old. Lessons are taught at 17 pools across the county, ranging from several central Cambridge University colleges and schools through to the organisation’s own custom-built facilities, with weekly classes and intensive courses during the school holidays.
