WIDE-RANGING BENEFITS The effect that exercise has on mental health is well known to schools – which is why they’re pushing to boost participation
way out. Far from it, as schools’ trophy cabinets, packed with glittering silverware, continue to demonstrate. Every school in our area has some heartwarming stories to tell. The range is stunning, spanning qualification for prestigious swimming and athletics championships at Stoke College, to rifle shooting at Gresham’s, where pupils have represented the UK and GB U19 in recent years. Rowers from St Mary’s School, Cambridge have gone from strength to strength, with many able to compete at a national level and the rowing club recently recognised as British Rowing affiliated. At The Perse, recent successes span cricket, rugby and hockey – with some past pupils who have gone on to play for England, and current pupils likely to join them in the near future. St Faith’s, meanwhile, has picked up five national titles in hockey in recent years, achieved multiple national-level gymnastics and trampolining awards, as well as competing at the top level in table tennis, badminton, gymnastics and more.
