DAY TRIP
Spotlight on St Ives A charming medieval market town north-west of Cambridge, set along the River Great Ouse
1. HYPERION With more than 60 years’ experience in antiques, fine art and collectables, Hyperion is the place to pick up vintage treasures and one-of-a-kind pieces for your home. Check out the website for details on upcoming auctions, where you can browse everything from jewellery to furniture, or visit the antiques centre, which has even more to admire. Outside in the cobbled courtyard, discover Business in a Box – a market-style shopping experience housing a diverse collection of unique, individual businesses. With up to 20 different traders, you can shop crafts, homeware, trinkets, gifts, baby clothes, refurbished items, retro fashion and plenty more – easily losing a few hours! 2. RIVER TERRACE With simply stunning views across the river, an ancient gantry bridge and Hemingford meadow, the River Terrace is a gem in the town’s dining scene. Expect tasty tapas, seasonal small plates, and a roll-call of top-tier local producers including bread from Grain Culture, coffee from Brew Project, meat from Dingley Dell and English cheeses from Rennet & Rind. 3. TOM’S CAKES Selling exquisite cakes, brownies, biscuits and other sweet treats, Tom’s Cakes is an icon of the St Ives high street. Every item is handmade from scratch using fresh, local ingredients, with bakers taking inspiration from the changing seasons to direct their bakes – be it a light-as-air lavender sponge in summer, or a Bramley apple and cinnamon cake in autumn. 4. THE TAPROOM A buzzy riverside café, cocktail bar and all-day restaurant, The Taproom is an essential stop-off on your St Ives day trip. The bottomless brunch on Saturdays and Sundays – with free- flowing cocktails plus bites like zesty crushed avocado on toast and waffles in maple syrup – looks unmissable. Elsewhere on the menu, find tasty toasties, hearty pasta dishes and vibrant salads. Keep an eye on the music line-up, which features DJs and acoustic acts.
OUT ON THE TOWN For a divine day out, why not stroll along the river and take a pit stop at one of St Ives’ fantastic eateries
