THE SYDNEY PLAZA’S AUDIO UPDATE The iconic Plaza Hotel in Sydney has recently been technically revitalised. Originally opened as a movie theatre in 1930, the Plaza has undergone a series of transformations over the
years. Australian distributor Technical Audio Group (TAG) worked closely with Brendon Fava from Xcite Audio Visual, and the aim for Anthony Russo, TAG’s technical director, was to create an immersive experience on the dance floor. Russo opted for a six-stack solution to ensure everyone within the dance floor’s sound field could enjoy a unique 360° experience. A total of 24 WPL line array elements were deployed in six hangs. To complement the arrays, a six-stack configuration of 18 2x18in Martin Audio SXH218 hybrid subwoofers was selected. The main substack stands at 2.5m tall, allowing patrons to experience the full force when dancing next to it.
The venue got off to a dynamic start following its opening before Christmas, having already hosted several prominent local and international DJs – including Chris Stussy and Mind Against – and finding favour with guests.
