And yes, there is new content too. “On top of that, we have been asked to create two brand-new shows that will premiere this year, bringing the total to 12 new and refreshed experiences that play each night,” he says. Expect a mix of the familiar and the fresh. “Guests will see familiar themes, architectural motifs, historic rail references and nature sequences – but elevated with richer detail, more dynamic transitions and enhanced colour fidelity.” Of course, delivering cutting-edge AV inside a 19th-century landmark comes with its own set of challenges. The Grand Hall is a protected historic space that also happens to function as a busy hotel lobby and event venue. “We were working in a live environment: the Grand Hall is a functioning hotel lobby, event space and public lounge. So, installation had to minimise disruption, conceal equipment discreetly and maintain the building’s historic fabric.” Then there’s the geometry. “Aligning multiple projectors across walls and a curved barrel ceiling to blend seamlessly required precision. We dedicated time to three-dimensional laser mapping and iterative calibration to ensure perfect geometry and locking that in.” All of that hard effort pays off in an experience that feels both technically impressive and emotionally resonant. And visitors have been noticing. “The initial response to the refresh has been overwhelmingly positive,” says Miceli. “Guests are responding with the same enthusiasm they did back in 2014 after it launched. We are receiving comments on its clarity and luminosity, and even longtime visitors say they feel like they are seeing the Grand Hall in an entirely new light.” For Miceli, there’s a deeper satisfaction in realising old creative ideas that were ahead of their time. “We are able to see detail we created back in 2014, now that we finally have the technology to bring it to the forefront. It’s overwhelming.” dimensional laser mapping and iterative calibration to ensure perfect geometry
