Presented by Kettle’s Yard, Echoes and Hours is the UK’s first major solo exhibition of the work of the South Africa-born artist Megan Rooney. Showcasing a sensuous, compelling array of abstract paintings on canvas, this multifaceted display also features a collaborative dance performance. In another inaugural moment, the show’s site-specific mural represents the first time that any artist has been permitted to paint directly on the gallery’s walls. These dynamic works can be said to embody the energy of Megan’s process, with the size of each canvas determined by the maximum reach of her outstretched arms. In her own words: “I imagine myself in flight when I am painting, hovering above the surface and searching for places to land, touching down and lifting off. I do this again and again until the surface starts to collect information...
