ISE REVIEW INDUSTRY
ISE-BREAKER The event covered insights into the creative synergy of AV tech
seminars touched on the most relevant, timely topics in the audio-visual sector. Oscar-winning Pakistani filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy delivered the opening keynote on ‘redefining the art of storytelling’. Known for her documentary shorts, but having since pivoted into feature filmmaking, Obaid-Chinoy is set to direct the upcoming Star Wars film – the first woman to do so in the franchise’s near 50-year history. In her speech, she discussed technology’s role in filmmaking, emphasising how advances in AV make for more impactful audience experiences and drive social change more broadly. In light of last year’s writers’ strikes, Joan Rosés and Albert Cañigueral delivered a presentation on ‘AI behind the screen’. There, they addressed the question ‘is AI going to replace us?’. Based on a report by the Catalan Audiovisual Cluster on the impact of AI in the AV industry, Rosés and Cañigueral came to a simple, reaffirming conclusion: no. Although AI poses a threat to writers and other creators, it’s only as powerful as we allow it to be. In a constantly evolving industry, ISE keeps us informed of the trends and technologies to shape the coming year. While production is at times tumultuous, innovation and creative integrity thrive. We’re eager to see what’s in store for next February; see you then in sunny Spain!

The Def team tore up Fira Barcelona at this year’s ISE. Here’s a quick recap of our 72-hour stint T his year’s Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) was a jam-packed three days for the Definition team. Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the show spread across eight halls, showcasing all things audio-visual – from lighting and staging to home cinema set-ups, plus virtual and augmented reality. We collectively stopped by more than 30 stands, seeing faces new and familiar. There, we watched demos of virtual stages enhanced by state-of- the-art tracking technology (Naostage); PTZ cameras, witnessing the difference between digital and optical zoom (Crestron); and LED displays with
RGBWW colour spectrums (ROE Visual). Surrounded by the latest and greatest gear – and the people behind it – we had plenty to get our hands on. When we weren’t browsing the impressive exhibitions, the conference programme kept us busy. Curated by AVIXIA, CEDIA and ISE, the speeches and
