SPELL SONGS LAUNCHES NEW ALBUM ALONGSIDE SPECIAL GUESTS Folk supergroup Spell Songs, who were first commissioned by Hertfordshire’s Folk by the Oak Festival in 2018, are embarking on a tour to coincide with the release of their third album In Thin Air . As with their first two albums ( The Lost Words Spell Songs , 2019 and Spell Songs II , Let The Light In , 2021), In Thin Air is an homage to a collaboration by artist Jackie Morris and conservation author Robert Macfarlane, whose most recent book The Book of Birds is a love letter to the splendours and mysteries of birdlife, and a clarion call to halt the loss of birds from land, sea and sky. Intrigued by this concept, Spell Songs musicians Karine Polwart, Julie Fowlis, Seckou Keita, Kris Drever, Rachel Newton, Beth Porter and Jim Molyneux have developed a new album that captures the remarkable world of birds from nest to migration. Their Cambridge performance is a special one, featuring a pre-show talk by Jackie Morris and Robert Macfarlane, plus the Spell Songs Scratch Choir. Catch the show on 4 September at Cambridge Corn Exchange
