THE GREAT BRITISH KITCHEN Kitchen company Roundhouse is rooted in British craftsmanship. Angelina Villa-Clarke finds out more about its bespoke approach to design and manufacturing

F rom sourcing beautiful copper sinks to finding the perfect glass cabinet, when it comes to the finishing touches that truly make a kitchen, Roundhouse prides itself on its attention to detail. Founded by architects, Roundhouse is a multi-award-winning British kitchen company, with a showroom in Cambridge. Featuring an understated aesthetic, influenced by contemporary and traditional design, each project is made to measure and is expertly crafted by skilled designers and makers in the company’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Malvern, Worcestershire. Founded some 27 years ago by three London-based architects, the company has now grown to encompass seven showrooms and 100 employees. “Our guiding principle has always been to focus on the individual we are designing for,” says Allison Lynch, showroom director at Roundhouse in Cambridge. “Our mission is to bring our customers’ dreams to life, creating spaces that are truly special. This ethos is underpinned by British craftsmanship and precision engineering.” On offer at Roundhouse are a diverse range of kitchens spanning a wide spectrum of styles. As well as offering this variety – from sleek handle-less styles to something more traditional – each kitchen is individually made.

TAILORED SERVICE Roundhouse kitchens involve the customer at every stage of the process, for something truly unique

“In fact,” says Allison, “Out of all the kitchens we have manufactured over the years, no one kitchen has ever been the same. Each customer works closely with one of our expert designers. They will meet with you to understand your ideas and guide you through the entire Roundhouse experience. Together, you’ll explore a wide range of options for design, materials, appliances and storage. This collaborative approach allows our designers to create a kitchen that is truly customised.” Making sure the customer journey is enjoyable is also at the heart of the Roundhouse experience, says Allison. “From inspiring clients in the showroom

This unusual mix of materials is very striking.” All Roundhouse kitchens are designed and built in the UK, with the factory in Malvern serving as the heart of its operations. Here, the brand blends traditional British joinery with the finest materials. The company is also committed to a sustainable ethos, sourcing timber that meets the highest accreditation and FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) standards, ensuring sustainable forestry practices. When it comes to keeping ahead of the curve, Allison reveals that it is a philosophy that is led from the top. “Our founders are passionate about architecture,” she says.

They will check over everything and take responsibility for the design, manufacturing, installation and after care.” When it comes to what is popular at the moment, Allison reveals that darker cabinet colours – such as forest green and black – are popular, as is the trend for using slatted timbers within the design, maybe as a feature wall or run of cabinets. “Statement islands are also on trend,” she says. “In our Cambridge showroom, we have a feature island in an antique copper

It means we can offer the latest information to clients.” Ultimately, creating something beautiful for each customer is the driving force at Roundhouse, says Allison. “We pride ourselves on offering end-to-end service, which is very rare in our industry. We want the same result as our clients – and that’s a stunning kitchen to be proud of for many years to come.”
