R enowned as Bedfordshire’s go-to destination for luxury jewellery and watches – and indeed, the region’s only official Rolex retailer for the past 15 years – longevity, luxury and expertise are firmly woven into the sparkling legacy of Baker Brothers. Over the past 180 years, the independent, family-run boutique has meticulously crafted a reputation of renown and unparalleled customer service as a unique and pioneering jeweller. This trailblazing history began when Baker Brothers became one of the first diamond specialists to effectively cut out the middleman by establishing an office in the world’s diamond-buying capital – Antwerp. To this day, all precious stones are still hand-selected from this location, passing stringent quality checks and price negotiations before they are eventually delivered to the beating heart of the business, an historic shopfront nestled in the heart of Bedford. “We inspect all our diamonds and gemstones loose, rather than already mounted as a ring or necklace, for example. This means we can view every gemstone through 360°, allowing our buyers to see every minute detail,” explains Sarah Colley, marketing manager at Baker Brothers. In this method of guaranteeing both best price and quality on behalf of its customers, Baker Brothers stands apart. “Most jewellers rely on their suppliers and goldsmiths to choose their gemstones and

DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH Aside from its sparkling collection, the jewel in the Baker Brothers’ crown is its personal touch as a retailer, leveraging the extensive and cutting-edge knowledge of its extremely well-educated team. With openness and honesty at the heart of its philosophy, service and customer attentiveness are key points of difference for Baker Brothers, with many customers coming to the shop complaining of experiences they’ve received elsewhere. “We want our customers to come back for generations to come – and they do – because we are there to guide you through the whole process,” says Sarah. “We want to know our customers, and we are privileged to have a long-standing, loyal team that fosters enduring relationships with them that are built on years of experience and personalised service.” In the past year alone, Baker Brothers has been recognised as jewellery retailer of the year, and won Luxlife ’s best engagement and wedding ring company award. Looking ahead, by continuing to innovate and partnering with world-renowned brands like Tudor and FOPE, Baker Brothers will continue to shine. receive them ready mounted, meaning they can only see limited angles when they inspect their gems,” she tells us.

MASTERS OF CREATION Baker Brothers’ history attests to its

renown on the diamond landscape, not least for its 4Cs experience – the global standard in assessing diamond quality defined by the cut, clarity, colour and carat. “Whenever a customer comes to us for the first time to buy diamond jewellery, such as an engagement ring, this is when our team shine,” enthuses Sarah. “We bring out a selection of diamonds, some 4Cs information and most importantly, a jeweller’s loupe. We then walk our customers through the 4Cs, while they have a loupe in their hand inspecting the diamond that will be mounted onto their chosen piece of jewellery,” she continues. Ensuring that everyone has a chance to shine, all diamond pieces are available for a wide range of budgets, in addition to a breathtaking array of coloured gemstones and pearl jewellery. Complementing this diamond expertise is Baker Brothers’ mastery of creation. This might entail working on an entirely bespoke piece to commemorate a special occasion or repurposing an inherited piece of jewellery. “There is nothing more exciting than seeing a customer’s piece go from the drawing board to reality,” she shares.
