The Grand Arcade

On 19 November, make your way to Cambridge’s top shopping destination for heaps of festive fun in preparation for the big switch-on later that day. From midday, crowds will gather in front of John Lewis for performances from local singers, choirs and dancers, under the traditional decorations of the Arcade. Kicking off with the Cambridge School of Visual and Performing Arts bringing you seasonal favourites, other acts include contemporary choir Vocal Remix, Stagecoach Performing Arts and rising star Abi Dhese-Biggs.

WINTER LIGHTS AT ANGLESEY Under the theme of Nature by Night, Nature by Light, Anglesey Abbey’s biggest annual fundraiser returns for another illuminated extravaganza. Described as a ‘magical celebration of the natural world’, wander through the estate’s gardens and marvel at their transformation. The display has been produced in collaboration with a variety of artists and performers, including Jeni Cairns, an award- winning garden designer whose work has featured in previous winter light spectaculars at the abbey.

An extravaganza of light and sound taking place in the breathtaking Peterborough Cathedral from 22 to 25 November, The Manger is for all the family to enjoy. This year’s presentation transports you to the heart of the Christmas story with its depiction of the manger and the baby Jesus. Wimpole Hall Christmas Illuminations

THE BIG SWITCH-ON, CAMBRIDGE Organised by Cambridge BID, two major Christmas lights events will hit the city this November. The first occurs on 16 November at Cambridge train station. Organised in partnership with Star Radio and music licensing company PPL PRS, Drivetime presenter Josh Lovatt will be performing a DJ set from 4.30pm before officially turning on the lights. Later this month, the fun moves to Market Square where the city-centre illuminations brighten things up from 19 November. The celebrations kick off from midday onwards.

Running from 24 November to 31 December, Wimpole Hall’s Christmas Illuminations trail is an after-dark outdoor experience that sees the estate brought to new life with over a million sparkling lights. The trail promises a glimpse of Father Christmas and the mesmerising sparkle of a luminous tunnel. Book to visit the house as well as view the unforgettable splendour of its Christmas decorations.
