The controls give access to nine built-in effects – fireworks II, fire II, paparazzi II, faulty bulb II, TV III, pulsing III, cop car III, lightning III and party II. As the light has full colour and the lighting bands can ‘move’ along its length, the effects are pretty convincing. The app or control panel are where you can also set the pixel effects – colour fade, colour cycle, one pixel chase, two pixel chase, three pixel chase, rainbow and pixel fire. You can set the speed of each, change colour and create some funky-looking displays, all without in-depth knowledge of lighting control systems. It’s also easy to set auto-off times for the screensaver as well as any overheating protection settings. And perhaps best of all, there is a simple on-off switch. Sometimes the most simple, old-school ways are just the best.

However, these magnets do leave the light stand slightly proud of the flat surface. So Aputure designed them so they can be easily slid off the end, allowing the Infinibar to be laid down totally flat on a surface, if required. There are also two 1/4in-20 female threads on each light. It’s this kind of detail that shows these are seriously professional products. The unit’s proprietary RGBWW chip set produces colour temperatures from 2000-10,000K with full green-magenta adjustment, and it possesses advanced hue, saturation and intensity controls for a wide gamut of precise and accurate colours. But it can also be used as a practical with precise control of temperature, tint and colour, or even up close as a main light. Use a short one-foot version for inside a car, or order loads and make a light installation worthy of a modern art prize. The Infinibars work very well, are a vast improvement on tubular lights and have a well-thought-out connection and power system.
