AWARDS FILMMAKER OF THE YEAR VISUAL EFFECTS VISIONARY USE OF TECHNOLOGY

From VFX and green screen to clever solutions in-camera or on-set, this category is for the best and most creative effects. One entry is from Theo Dudley, half of the directorial team for the music video White Wine by JWalk. “I’ve worked as a treatment writer in the music video space for the past seven years, and I’ve always wanted to try my hand at directing,” says Dudley. “Last year, I met JWalk at a party and instantly resonated with his sound. His voice is amazingly rich, and there’s a mournful tone to his music that reminded me of the terrible pain and catharsis of lost love. “From there, I brought on my co- director Kat Ferentchak, who I’ve always

wanted to collaborate with. I wrote up a concept and together we began boarding out the music video. “I met Andy Chen, a DOP and one half of Cinepacks studios. He told me he was almost finished building a volume stage, and was willing to let us be the first to shoot on it. We were eager to take on the challenge, and had amazing motion graphics made by editor and artist Kevin Fermini. With mixed media, VFX, aerial dancing, weeks’ worth of rehearsals, we really threw everything at this project. We hope our love for the song and the talent of our team shows through in the final product. It was an incredible journey and personal creative and career highlight.”

AERIAL HITTING NEW HEIGHTS

If aerial shots are the sole content of your film or a major part of it, this is the category to enter. You may fly a drone, UAV or helicopter, or even use a polecam or other extending platform. If high-angle work is a crucial element of your video, this is its category. We are looking for creative angles that show off top-level work.

Roe Visual makes high-end LED display platforms that lead the way in virtual production. Using LED panels instead of costly set designs, this new way of working creates maximum flexibility for production teams. Replacing the traditional green screen element of a virtual studio allows presenters and audience to see and interact with the content around them. This groundbreaking technology is having a huge influence on how broadcasts are delivered.

LIVESTREAMED EVENT CREATING CONTENT AS IT HAPPENS Live is booming, and the very best are creating never-before-seen work – like one entry from Jay Rozanski, a producer at Oxyfire Media. Galwad is a truly groundbreaking production, merging live performance, filmmaking and innovative distribution on social media, radio and live TV. Rooted in the people and places of Wales, this ambitious, trilingual project explores the social, economic and cultural consequences of a rise in global temperatures. Culminating in a five-hour live broadcast on Sky Arts from a slate quarry in Blaenau Ffestiniog, it broke new ground by spreading characters and plot over a hundred pieces of content, immersing viewers using single-shot cinematography.
