Oaks International School C A M B R I D G E

ucked away in beautiful Cherry Hinton, Oaks International is a thriving international school for two to 11 year olds, and has strong links to Cambridge International School for 11 to

16 year olds. The school is a welcoming community of children, parents and staff from the local area, as well as overseas. Everyone supports one another to ensure that the children are learning in an unpressured environment, with a focus on the children becoming confident, happy, resilient individuals. The school has small class sizes (a maximum of 16) and staff are experienced in teaching children from a range of different language and cultural backgrounds. Helping the children to be internationally minded ensures they value and respect the different cultures and languages of their classmates. Each child has their own individualised targets, to ensure they are learning, aspiring and fulfilling their own academic potential. LEARNING AND CURRICULUM Focus is on the quality of the children’s learning, with emphasis on the question: ‘are they getting better?’. A diverse and exciting curriculum is provided using a topic-based approach, which allows in-depth inquiry into questions related to science, history and geography, with links to art, design and technology. The children’s learning in mathematics and English follows the UK National Curriculum, and the children have specialist lessons in Spanish, music, sport and forest school. As an international school, language provision is an important part of the day. Along with Spanish lessons from the age of three, children who speak a different language from English at home receive two lessons a week in their ‘mother tongue’, with English provided as an Additional Language (EAL) lesson for those new to communicating in English.
