T riCaster launched at a equipment,” reminisces Chris McLendon, senior product manager for TriCaster at Vizrt. McLendon takes us back to the distant days of 2005 when the product was launched: a time when tech was taking off, and minimising stacks of pricey hardware was a top priority across M&E. “TriCaster came along, and being software-based meant we could take amazing amounts of production power time when people began to realise you could have innovative products without all the expensive and put them into small packages.” TriCaster’s launch was nothing short of revolutionary. Merging live video switching, broadcast graphics, virtual sets, special effects, audio mixing and more into a portable and compact appliance, it became the simplest answer to various issues faced by media firms at the time. Fast-forward to 2024, and several successful models later, Vizrt has announced the much-anticipated addition of two new TriCasters to its dynamic range at IBC 2024. “Over the years, the product line has grown to cater to so many different segments and scales of production,” describes McLendon. “Anything from entry-level content creators streaming on Twitch, all the way up to major sporting events. Building on the promise of production and budget flexibility, the TriCaster Vizion comes with licensing options and a choice of two different hardware platforms – supported by HP – so that every team in networks or enterprises can decide what suits them. software-only, entry-level solution for smaller productions, making pro-grade production the norm for the next generation of content creators. “Mini S is our first software-only product. Although TriCaster is a software-based switcher, we’ve always provided it on our hardware. What software-only means is that we’re allowing users to run TriCaster Mini S on their own hardware.” The tool possesses robust IP connectivity, 4K60p streaming and integrated TriCaster Graphics powered by Viz Flowics. Ultimately, it delivers on the TriCaster promise of providing all you need for top-tier video production. Breaking down barriers TriCaster Mini S emerges as a “Mini S lowers the barrier to entry more than ever before,” McLendon summarises. “We wanted to make a TriCaster that’s accessible to all.”
