LIGHTING SPECIAL

functionality for remote control. SFX features include flash, pulse, storm, paparazzi, TV, welding and more. While this is only a Daylight fixture, these aren’t as realistic as RGBWW alternatives. As well as mains, the light can be powered by a pair of V-Mount batteries that clip directly on to either side of the control box. But as this is a high-powered unit, it takes a lot of power to get things running. Using a pair of 14.8v batteries, the maximum intensity is just 40% of full, while switching them for 26v cells gets you 70%. That might sound a bit disappointing, but don’t forget 100% is immensely powerful. At 3m, the 720 model puts out a maximum of 3777 lux with no reflector. Add the included high- performance reflector and receive an incredible 10,200 lux. Indoors, that is simply too bright to look at, but ideal for bouncing off walls and ceilings, or shooting through scrims or softboxes. Light output is consistently accurate in terms of colour temperature as you go through the power settings, with no flickering. Very impressive. We also took the light outside on one of the brightest days of the year, to fill in some shadows while filming a black motorcycle in the early afternoon sun. That’s a big test of any continuous light, but we found at around 2m, this definitely lifted the dark shadows significantly. Use it in closer with a modifier to soften the light, and it’s ideal for illuminating people, even in harsh sunlight. So much power makes it extremely versatile – indoors or out. nanlite.co.uk

SAFETY FIRST The ballast/control unit clamps to a stand – but make certain it’s a sturdy one!
