COMING TO SAWSTON WITH A SMILE! Newmarket favourite Victor Victoria Coffee gets set to open a new premises After opening in Newmarket in March 2020, Victor Victoria Coffee got off to a rocky start, having to close just two weeks later due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “But, fast-forward four years, after 100,000 coffees and countless happy customers, we are almost ready to open in Sawston!” reveals co-owner Victoria Snell. The business was started by Victoria and her partner Nick, with the eponymous Victor referring to her father. “Victor Victoria Coffee was always intended to be a community space – a place where all are welcome, whether it is to come and meet friends, work or just hang out and chat with our staff,” she tells us. Thanks to the popularity of the Newmarket cafe (voted Newmarket’s best cafe in 2023), you will often find the premises short of space. So, last year, the hunt for a new site got underway. Having previously worked around both Shelford and Sawston, Victoria knew this was the area she wanted to be in. Fate, it would seem, was on her side after a chance discussion with the cafe’s coffee engineer – a Sawston resident – revealed that the former premises of the Green Room had come on the market. “Three days later, we had viewed the space, fell in love with it and made an offer.” The new site on 80 High Street creates a much bigger space to roll out the Victor Victoria experience, one that is defined by delicious coffee, fresh home-baked cakes, perfect pastries and a tasty breakfast and brunch menu, all served with a friendly smile. “We will also be adding some extra twists to the menu, so keep your eyes peeled for our signature French toast and maybe a waffle and Turkish eggs!” With an official opening scheduled for the week commencing 12 February, visitors can expect a beautiful cafe space that is comfortable, clean and designed with customer wellbeing at its heart. “Having spent the last couple of months renovating and interviewing local staff, we have to say how delighted we are to be here,” closes Victoria. “It is such a friendly village!” @victor_victoria_coffee

IT TAKES A VILLAGE Founded by Katie Linard, Mamas who Brunch comes to Cambridge As a proud mother of two boys under five, Katie Linard believes all mums have superpowers. After moving from London to the countryside as a pregnant young mum with a one-year-old in tow – not knowing anyone in the area – she decided to create an event where new mums could meet and connect socially, rather than being solely focused on babies. “I understand the daunting experience of being in a new place and embarking on big life changes, so I wanted to create a space for mums in a similar position with something about them too, and not just their children,” says Katie. Open to pregnant ladies, new mums or mums with older children, everyone is welcome at Mamas who Brunch (MWB). Each event features a guest expert to offer useful advice – from sleep consultants to midwives, postnatal support providers, financial coaches and life coaches. “It’s about building that mama tribe and supporting each other on this journey of motherhood,” she adds. “Everyone should have access to help in becoming the best mama you can be.” MWB’s first local event takes place on 13 February at the Orchard Tea Garden in Grantchester, featuring special guest Noëllie Ratier. As a private midwife, Noëllie supports families from conception to postnatal recovery, and will be on hand to provide insight and support.
