BREWING A BIGGER FUTURE

Connoisseur of craft beer DEAD Time has officially opened a new (and much larger) premises in its hometown of Saffron Walden. The brand takes its name from the call traditionally shouted by brewers once it’s time to test the beer: Drop Everything and Drink Time! The store is owned by ‘seasoned beer aficionado’ Jack, whose career has seen him climb the ranks from working in Wetherspoons to becoming head of beer for the Pint Shop in Cambridge, before he eventually decided to open his own brick- and-mortar and online shop. “We started in our little shop on Rose and Crown Walk in December 2020. While Covid-19 was a tricky period to navigate, it put us in a good place to hone what we wanted to sell when things opened up again,” he tells us. Founded on a passion for small, independent breweries, DEAD Time began selling craft beer and wine in 2021, and soon gathered a devoted following. But with space for just 16 people to sit inside, things quickly became rather cramped. “When the shop opposite us became vacant, we decided to open a shop twice the size, with space for around 40 people to sit inside and 24 seats outside – plus more draft beer options and extra wines and ciders,” he shares. Following its opening, things are looking lively. “We had 150 people stood both inside and outside, even in the freezing January weather!” deadtime.co.uk | @deadtimebeers
