Fujifilm

THE KIT DAVID OWNS David McKibbin bought the FujifilmX-T3 and has since built up a lens system of primes and zooms. His bag has the XF10-24mm f/4 R OIS, XF18- 55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS, XF16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR and XF50-140mm f/2.8 R LM OISWR zooms. His primes are the XF14mm f/2.8 R, XF23mm f/1.4 R, XF35mm f/1.4 R and XF56mm f/1.2 R.

X-T3 BODY The FujifilmX-T3 combines Fujifilm’s unique back-side illuminated 26-megapixel X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor with the powerful X-Processor 4 image- processing engine to produce richly detailed images with striking, true-to-life colour. It has an ISO range of 160 to 12,800, extendable to 80 to 51,200, lightning-fast AF and a blistering 20fps burst mode.

XF16-55MM F/2.8 R LMWR A pro-level, fast standard zoom giving an equivalent of 24-84mm in the 35mm format, this lens provides great flexibility in framing, superb low-light and shallow depth-of-field options and is backed up by full weather sealing. Plus, its linear motor provides super-quick, precise and silent autofocusing.

LEFT Flat Tyre at the Design Office, XF10-24 f/4 at 24mm, f/14, ISO 640, 1/5sec. Grabbed quickly opposite the Royal Armouries Museum, Leeds ABOVE Co-ordinated onAll Levels, XF16-55 f/2.8 at 16mm, f/8, ISO 800, 1/50sec. A candid street shot waiting for characters to appear– the feet were a bonus!

BOTTOM LEFT Brutal Curves, XF16-55 f/2.8 at 44mm, f/3.2, ISO 3200, 1/120sec. I was impressed with the detail at high ISO captured here. BOTTOM RIGHT Zigzag, XF16-55 f/2.8 at 22mm, f/11, ISO 800, 1/140sec. The lead-in lines, architectural details and position of the manmake this, but it took a while for him to stand there!

which all work perfectly with the X-T3, including TTL and HSS modes. It’s still early days for me using these lights, but the lockdown has given me time to get under the skin of the technicalities, so now comes the creative part. Myself and a good friend are the official photographers for the local annual AlresfordMusic Festival, which would have really tested the X-T3, but that was another lockdown casualty so I’ll have to wait until next year. I know there are even more functions and capabilities tucked away inside the X-T3 that I’ve yet to discover, but it’s certainly working for me so far. Do I regret not waiting for the X-T4? Not at all. I’m delighted with all the fun I’ve had and shots I’ve managed with this camera, which should see me through to an X-T5!

XF50-140MMF/2.8RLMOISWR This telezoom with its superb handling and innovative optical design is sure to give stunning results in almost every situation. Its Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) is incredibly effective, offering a benefit of up to 5EV, giving sharp shots at 1/4sec. Its advanced optical design comprises 23 lens elements, six of which are made from extra low-dispersion glass, which ensures crystal-clear pictures of outstanding colour fidelity.
