LOCATION STATION The compact Atomos Ninja V+ is ideal for use out and about, as it’s light and works with an NP-F battery

can also upgrade their units to the highly efficient H.265 codec – to expand their options and explore traditional streaming, broadcast and proxy workflows. Build quality retained The Ninja V+ is the same form factor as the original Ninja V, so will work with most accessories and rigs. It does have a stealth- grey bezel, and a newer processor inside helps with recording ProRes Raw from 30 different cameras via HDMI – giving a wide choice of tech options. The Ninja’s bright and accurate, five- inch, 1000-nit display helps filmmakers get it right on set. This is thanks to the screen quality and array of on-screen tools, like waveforms, false colour, vectorscope, focus peaking and instant zoom, as well as anamorphic de-squeeze options. Use the built-in 3D LUT function with your own custom LUTs, or enable the AtomHDR processing for built-in log to HDR transforms. The Ninja’s display allows you to lock in your look on set, then use the same image in post-production with the options for HDR. There is also audio input, a 3.5mm headphone jack, remote jack, full-size HDMI input and output sockets, so you can link it up to another monitor. The top and bottom of the units have the Arri two-pin 3/8-inch accessory mounts, so you can prevent the unit twisting. It’s powered by a single Sony NP-F- style battery, but you can also charge it from the mains via an included adapter. This premiumNinja V+ takes everything from the Ninja V and builds on it, with lots of processing power to record ProRes Raw at even higher frame rates and resolutions. This power allows the platform to add other ‘plus’ features when combined with forthcoming Atomos products and AtomX modules. The Atomos Ninja V+ opens up future possibilities, but is available now.

For users of selected cinema cameras that output over SDI, the Ninja V+ Pro Kit comes with all the additional accessories and licence you need – including the AtomX SDI module – to enable 4K/120p ProRes Raw recording from Sony’s FX9 and FX6. The FX6 is plug-and-play, while the FX9 requires Sony’s XDCA-FX9 Extension unit to output Raw. The Pro Kit comes with a hard case, neoprene sleeve, AtomX SDI module, battery eliminator, D-Tap cable, sunhood and empty SSD drive caddy. H.265 10-bit 4:2:2 recording Included in the codec choices of the Ninja V+ is the ability to record video inputs, using the 10-bit 4:2:2 H.265 (HEVC) codec, for high-quality compressed recordings with small files. This is ideal for streaming and sharing online. The expanded codec family is included with the Ninja V+ and Ninja V+ Pro Kit. And owners of the Ninja V and Ninja V Pro Kit
