These awards celebrate the very best, with the innovation and launch of the year classes. This kit is brand new: it might not have made a huge splash in the market yet, but it’s worthy of recognition for pushing the technological envelope, or a spectacular unveiling. In our launch of the year category, cameras dominate once again, with eight nominations. Sony’s A1 mirrorless, FX6 cinema camera and FX3 mirrorless/cinema cam are highly prized – and in line for an award. Panasonic’s S5 and the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro pack lots of technology into affordable packages, so also make the list. The Fujifilm GFX100S brings super-sized sensors to video, while the 6K Red Komodo is a very different type of camera, but a significant addition. The Rotolight Titan X1 and Atomos Ninja V+ monitor/recorder have had significant debuts and deserve their places.
The Atomos Ninja V+ is also nominated in the innovation of the year category – as are the Red Komodo and Sony A1. Picking up nods are the Blackmagic Atem Mini Extreme streamer, affordable Hollyland Mars 400S Pro wireless video transmission system, Canon CR-X500 PTZ camera and Motion Impossible Agito dolly system.
