ESCAPE TO THE COUNTRY From fireside favourites to lavish fine dining in a historic setting, these regional foodie hotspots are dripping with rural charm

The Chubby Frog, Caxton A PUB WITH PUNCH

This independent family-run restaurant has developed a reputation for its colourful vibe, relaxed atmosphere and eclectic menus serving up what’s been dubbed as ‘epic plates of lushness’! Since opening last year, the Sunday roasts and brunches have become firm favourites, with culinary delights served with a signature twist – such as brioche French toast with salted-caramel ice cream and caramelised pecans, or the Breakfast Burrito Bomb. As winter approaches, the pub’s getting ready to expand its offering even further with festive feasting boards, alongside a special festive brunch hosted around Christmas time. As we write, chef Craig is busy working on a recipe for KFP – aka Kentucky fried pheasant – so watch this space! Find out more at thechubbyfrog.com

The Red Lion, Hinxton & The Black Bull, Balsham TWIN PEAKS

There is always excitement this time of year at sister pubs The Black Bull in Balsham and The Red Lion in Hinxton, as they switch from their summer to winter personas. Parasols and summer dishes make way for log fires, tealights and hearty fare, creating a warm and cosy welcome. Both pubs are thriving as ever, always pushing to the next level. While customer recognition for both has been consistently wonderful, industry recognition is equally gratifying and a promise of culinary satisfaction for diners - Chef Rob at The Black Bull has just been awarded two AA Rosettes for his food. The early robin gets the best tables, so visit blackbull-balsham.co.uk or redlionhinxton.co.uk to book your spot!
