ON THE RISE In the UK, 39% of surveyed organisations had reported a cyberattack in 2022; however, the real number may even be much higher than that. Within that group, 31% of businesses and 26% of charities reported being attacked at least once per week.
Last year, the most common attack by a landslide was phishing, or deceiving an individual or organisation by posing as a legitimate entity. The most commonly impersonated companies were Microsoft (30m), Amazon (6.5m), DocuSign (3.5m), Google (2.6m) and DHL (2m).

Data compromises in the US between 2005 and 2022

The measurable number of data compromises in the US grew from 157 in 2005 to 1802 in 2022. While there are several factors – such as general advances in digitisation over the decades – that could have impacted this number, it’s clear that breaches are only becoming increasingly common, impacting millions of individuals every year.
