FOOD & DR INK

RISING TO THE OCCASION Nestled in the market square of Cambridge’s newest neighbourhood, Eddington, is one of the city’s most exciting foodie finds: Dulcedo. A bakery and patisserie where everything is freshly made on-site, this shop’s story began life in a different market square – the one in the city centre – back in 2015. It was there that owners Joanna Hajduk and Andrew Hunter took the first steps towards their dream of one day owning their own cafe. The duo quickly made a name for themselves with their giftable boxes of chocolates and colourful macarons, and by 2017 decided to take the next step for their business by taking on a bricks- and-mortar site on Hills Road. While it helped them to build their profile in the city, it was only ever a stepping stone (since the building was always going to be made into flats), and Dulcedo has recently entered its latest incarnation with a new site at Eddington and another, Eclipse Bakery, which opened on Mill Road on 12 November. You probably couldn’t ask for two more different destinations in Cambridge than the historic, quirky Mill Road and the newly minted community at Eddington, but it’s a challenge Joanna and Andrew are delighted to be taking on. Dulcedo Eddington is bright and modern building, offering breads, patisserie, chocolate and locally roasted coffee. The shelves are lined with artisan loaves and pastries to make you drool, from the brioche babka with rich swirls of dark chocolate to the sugar-dusted cinnamon buns and danish pastries with pools of marigold-yellow custard. The plan for this outpost is to eventually also serve brunches and host special themed events such as pizza nights, while the Mill Road branch will offer delightful homemade bakes for the Romsey community.
