FOOD & DR INK

In a new book from the Campaign for Real Ale, beer writer Roger Protz details the stories of four historic breweries across East Anglia. The Family Brewers of Britain charts three centuries of British brewing, examining some of our best and most fascinating family brewers. Among the breweries featured in the book is Elgood’s in Wisbech. Dating from 1795 – and run by the Elgood family since 1878 – the brewery overlooks the River Nene, and its gardens are home to some of the oldest trees in the region. You’ll also find in- depth features and interviews with McMullen’s, Adnams and Wells & Co breweries in the book, so you can be sure to uncover some intriguing anecdotes. Roger says: “Our family brewers are often overlooked flagbearers for real ale and have fascinating stories to tell. These four breweries have centuries of history under their belts, and it was a delight to research and compile their stories in this book. I look forward to readers coming along on this journey and learning more about their favourite beers.” To find out more and order a copy, head to the CAMRA website. shop1.camra.org.uk NEW BOOK ON BREWING

PLATEAWAY

Newly launched meal kit delivery service Plateaway allows you to make restaurant-quality food at home, providing you with meal kits from an ever-growing group of restaurants. Plateaway’s co- founder Nick Leigh says: “After a few weeks in lockdown, we were all missing life’s simple pleasures, like going out to a restaurant for a delicious meal. Having attempted to make the most of home-cooked meals and being ‘adventurous’ in the kitchen with the limited groceries available, we knew there must be an alternative. We reached out to some of our favourite restaurants, not only to satisfy our cravings, but also to support the industry, and Plateaway was born!” Cambridge residents can benefit from Plateaway’s partnership with Patty & Bun, whose vegan burger kits may convert even the most committed of carnivores. plateaway.com
