NEXT-LEVEL NANLITE This second-generation version of the Forza 60B is just the first of the upgraded lights across Nanlite’s Forza range. We got to test the 60B II, which is quieter than the original bicolour lamp and has improved wireless controls, alongside a few other tweaks. The super-compact Forza 60B

The Forza 60 is part of Nanlite’s compact range, which employs the smaller FM mount for modifiers. It comes with a small reflector that works well, and you can buy additional FM mount accessories. We found it better to keep the included Bowens mount as you have access to a far wider range of light boxes, lanterns, reflectors and more. To avoid putting stress on the lamp bracket, the adapter itself fits to a light stand. The lamp head goes in one side and the modifier on the front, to balance out the weight. Of course, with a 60W rated light you don’t want to power through huge softboxes. But we tried it on a 120cm parabolic softbox and it worked very well, with not too much fall-off at the edges. For indoor locations, it’s perfectly fine. The reality is that any 60W light is not the thing to buy for outside on a bright day. For that, you need something with more power. But “It’s a bargain at £342 – some brands would charge you that for just the case and accessories”

II now has a locking DMX remote- control port, built-in Bluetooth for direct wireless control with the free Nanlink mobile app, a quieter integral fan and 45° mini reflector. Inside the included padded case comes an adapter to use full-size Bowens light modifiers, a battery grip so you can use it handheld or mounted on a stand while using a battery and a mains adapter with a decently long 3m/9ft 10in lead. The battery grip takes Sony NP-F fit cells, but there’s also a V-Mount plate included to fit bigger batteries. The 60B II comes with more effects than the original, and has the same Max Output and Constant Output modes that are found on the high- end Forza 720B. Incredibly, it’s still an absolute bargain at a mere £342/$TBC for the bicolour lamp and full slew of accessories – all in a case. The daylight-only version is £300/$TBC. Some brands would charge you that for just the case and accessories. It’s a fantastic deal.

indoors or in low-light conditions, this is a useful light – and powerful enough, especially as either a fill or hair light. Control via the app is simple, and the head itself has a simple LED menu system and two dials on the rear. If you long-press the right dial, settings are locked to avoid accidental changes. The CCT range is 2700-6500K – a very useful spectrum, especially at the warmer end. Output is dimmable in 1% increments all the way from 0-100%. There are also 12 effects built in – but these are never particularly convincing in bicolour lights. The flash, paparazzi, storm and welding effects are only OK; the candle and fire less so, as there just isn’t enough warmth. Apart from that minor gripe, the light works very well. The colour is accurate and there’s no flicker to worry about. The fan is quiet and you can turn it off if needed. Build quality is shockingly good for something this low in price, too. It’s a great upgrade to the older model, keeping the light quality and power while adding enough improvements to be worth a go. en.nanlite.com
