ILLUMINATING ‘METALCORE’ Most touring lighting designs are built from a palette of fixture types, each doing the job it’s best at. The Spiritbox production that toured North America in 2026 was built from just one. Lighting designer and programmer PJ Carruth carried 20 GLP JDC2 IP fixtures and nothing else, running the new firmware
Carruth’s programming leans into the percussion, treating light as a form of annotation for the music. The touring package consisted of 20 GLP JDC2 IP fixtures supplied by Volt, arranged as a single row across the upstage floor. Committing to doing the entire show with a single fixture type placed considerable weight on the range of the JDC2 IP. “Our changeover time and console time was very short, but the set-up and programming of these lights were so streamlined that we weren’t stressed about getting everything working quickly,” said Carruth. “I’m very excited to incorporate these fixtures into future productions.”
2.0 in what is believed to be the first touring deployment of the 2.0 release. Spiritbox presented a particularly unique design element to Carruth. The Canadian metalcore act moves between crushing rhythms and long atmospheric sections, often within the same track. The lighting had to articulate that structure, rather than simply keeping pace with it.
KEEPING FIT TO BIAMP SOUND CHANGE North Adelaide, a premier fitness and wellness destination in Adelaide, South Australia, recently deployed a comprehensive Biamp audio system to deliver powerful, clear sound for high-energy training classes while providing discreet, premium
background music in its wellness and spa areas. Adelaide-based technology integrator Leedall installed the integrated solution. “The integrated Biamp ecosystem was the perfect fit for the diverse acoustic requirements at CHANGE,” said Tim Biedman, associate designer, Leedall. “We were able to commission the entire system offline before installation, which gave us tremendous confidence in the deployment. The reliability and performance of the Biamp Desono speakers, combined
with the seamless integration of Biamp Voltera controllers and Apprimo wall panels, delivered exactly what the client needed.”
