There is nothing better than being outside with friends, far from home or in your backyard, showcasing the sport, how the subject wants to show themselves and how you envision it yourself. That is why I consider board riding in all its forms more of an art than a sport. It’s like dancing in a way, really.” Ray’s latest project for Quiksilver was as testing and tough as any he has done before, but equally rewarding. “It was a snowboard tour video through the Alps in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and France called Surf the Mountain Tour . “We hiked around in the mountains for a few weeks. It was a lot of long days: waking up before the light was out and late finishes on the computer wrangling that day’s footage, as I was the only filmer. Still, it was a lot of fun, and I am delighted with how it turned out.

It made me want to go outside and try the things they were doing – whether on a board or behind a camera and computer screen. I just want to inspire someone the same way I was inspired.” It might seem like a super-glamorous life, but shooting incredible action in testing locations is always a mission. “The thing that excites me most about action sports is the sense of adventure. It’s certainly hard work: early mornings, late nights, hiking mountains with double the gear of the subjects you film, getting sunstroke on a beach after sitting there for ten hours straight – and then doing
