CASE STUDY JON RAY
it all over again the next day,” says Ray. “Still, it’s what keeps me coming back for more. There is nothing better than being outside with friends, far from home or in your backyard, showcasing the sport, how the subject wants to show themselves and how you envision it yourself. That is why I consider board riding in all its forms more of an art than a sport. It made me want to go outside and try the things they were doing – whether on a board or behind a camera and computer screen. I just want to inspire someone the same way I was inspired.” It might seem like a super-glamorous life, but shooting incredible action in testing locations is always a mission. “The thing that excites me most about action sports is the sense of adventure. It’s certainly hard work: early mornings, late nights, hiking mountains with double the gear of the subjects you film, getting sunstroke on a beach after sitting there for ten hours straight – and then doing
