STREET STYLE
Colour pop! On a dark December day, it’s all too easy to fall back on a wardrobe of brown, black and grey, which tends to match our wintry mood. Photographer Mark Box insists that colour is just a state of mind, and has found plenty of individuals who buck the seasonal trend. “Some people wear bright colours all the time to express themselves – they tend to be outgoing extroverts who are creative, approachable and full of bright ideas.” Whether our colour choices affect our mood, or our mood influences our colour choices, seasons certainly play a role. “In spring and summer, feeling rejuvenated by the sunshine, warmth and flowers, we might opt for brighter, wilder colours,” says Mark. “In autumn the palette shifts towards more earthy tones – lots of oranges and browns. As the clouds roll in for winter, many people opt for darker hues, which are more muted but can be smart and appealing in their own right. “When I started this project, I’d never realised how important colour was. It’s good to see people continuing to wear bright colours in winter – it’s a cheerful expression of who they are.” Humans of Cambridge is a street photography photoblog founded by Mark Box in 2020.
