LI.LAC CEO: Tobi Hoff
What is the company’s origin story? Tobi Hoff has work and touring experience as a live sound engineer in 60+ countries. Over the last decade, he has been the main engineer for the band Deep Purple. With a background in electrical engineering, Hoff designed and developed many helper tools for the pro audio and event industry – for example, the Teqsas LAP-TEQ Plus Inclinometer for precise line array positioning. What is it working on right now? The industry has never addressed microphone hygiene. Actors, singers, musicians, professors, preachers and more touch microphones with their hands and their lips. While singing or talking, microphones are exposed to aerosols emitted from the mouth. In many situations, microphones are shared between multiple users. Pathogens like bacteria, viruses or fungi can contaminate the microphone and spread between people. When dining out, you expect the cutlery to be clean; we should expect the same when using a microphone. The Li.Lac microphone disinfector is an innovative approach to microphone hygiene: it allows simple, fast and scientifically verified disinfection of handheld microphones, transmitters, lapel and headset mics and other small items like belt packs through UV-C light. Li.Lac’s design is rugged and road-ready in a 19in 3U rack format. Place the microphones on the metal grille, close the irradiation chamber drawer and press start. After five to 12 minutes, the display turns green and the microphones are disinfected by UV-C light, meaning no liquids, drying times, toxins or dismantling. You get high material compatibility, effectiveness and ease of use. Li.Lac’s capability has been verified in extensive scientific studies by the University Medical Center Groningen. What is the next step? The responses to Li.Lac are overwhelming. The team is proud to see it in use with many high-end touring productions and renowned venues all around the world, like Iron Maiden, Coldplay, Adele, Roger Waters, Deep Purple, The Weeknd, Maluma, Sydney Opera House and more. You don’t need to be a technician; Li.Lac can be used anywhere microphones are used, like concerts, conference rooms, places of worship, theatres, cruise ships and TV and radio studios. The next step is to establish Li.Lac as the ‘standard for microphone hygiene’ in all these scenarios. What one thing does the company need most? Li.Lac is looking for investors and bigger partners to make this innovative technology available to all possible users and markets in the world.
