ADVERT I SEMENT FEATURE

SAVING LIVES 24/7 EAAA is now there to save lives by air, or by road, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year across Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Suffolk and Norfolk. But none of this would be possible without donations and support from the local community ne person who owes their life to EAAA is Chris

Marshall, a 49-year-old barber. Last summer, he

was involved in a life-threatening collision with a car while training for a 100-mile cycle challenge. When Chris’s wife was first notified, she was told he wasn’t likely to survive. The EAAA team flew to him in north Norfolk – and worked for over an hour to deliver the enhanced pre-hospital care interventions required to give him a fighting chance. Once stable, Chris was then flown to Addenbrooke’s for specialist treatment, where he remained for several weeks. The injuries Chris suffered were extensive, including three bleeds on the brain, several spinal fractures, a fractured pelvis, broken left shoulder blade, hip and ankle and several broken ribs. He has since suffered double vision, slurred speech and had to learn to walk and talk again. But despite this, Chris has shown true grit and determination to recover. Defying all the odds, this August he is cycling 435 miles to raise funds for EAAA. This challenge is called the Adrian Flux Lap of Anglia – and circles the area EAAA covers, in four back-to-back days of challenging cycling. Chris said: “I’m still not 100%, but I know how close I came to dying. I’m just so glad that I didn’t – and so grateful to the EAAA that they were there to save my life. Having spoken to the team who treated me, there is no way the ambulance service paramedics would have been able to deliver the enhanced level of care which saved me. I know that without EAAA, there is no way I’d be here now to see my kids grow up.” By operating 24/7 by air and road, EAAA can now be there for even more patients like Chris when needed.
